John G’s Moving to Manalapan

With the closing of the Lake Worth Casino at the end of May for some much-needed renovation, long-time dining fixture John G’s will be packing up and moving down south on the Intracoastal to Manalapan.

The popular breakfast and lunch spot expects to open in its new location in the Plaza del Mar shopping center in July, reportedly taking over the space currently occupied by Callaro’s Prime Steak, which may itself reopen in another space in the mall.

The $6 million casino reno is expected to take about a year, with existing tenants given first crack at returning, providing they can pay prevailing rents and afford to build out there sites. John G’s co-owner Wendy Yarbrough has been quoted as saying she’d like to return to the newly renovated casino location but isn’t sure if it will happen.

Despite the restaurant’s legions of fans, it may be tough sledding in Plaza del Mar, given the typical summer business slowdown and the coming demolition and rebuilding of the East Ocean Avenue Bridge, the easiest access to the plaza for anyone crossing the Intracoastal.
