Let the Beach Party Begin

Forget the mechanical bull. When a blast from South Florida’s nightlife past debuts in Boca Raton, guests instead will look to tame a mechanical shark. It’s all part of a reincarnation more than two decades in the making as Baja Beach Club—once a tropical-themed staple of the area’s club scene—opens its doors Friday, Oct. 5.

“It’s a design that really hasn’t been seen in South Florida before,” says Kathleen Duda, public relations spokesperson for the nightclub. Baja promises a high-energy atmosphere, mixed with a vintage surf shop vibe. Then there’s the custom-made mechanical shark, which is certain to draw its share of patrons—especially after a little liquid courage.

“There’s a natural inclination for people to have a good time,” Duda says. “You come to Baja Beach Club to have a good time, not to pose.”

Baja Beach Club once hosted 40 different club locations across the globe, many of them in the United States. The club’s original creator, Larry Spatz, was inspired to relaunch the brand in Boca and integrate a fresh perspective. As the man responsible for “the body shot,” Spatz knows what it takes to engage attendees.

The 9,000-square-foot club, complete with an indoor dance area, will feature six bars, each with a different theme, as well as an outdoor terrace. Expect the music to span eras that target the 25-to-35 age range.

“It’s about being entertained,” Duda says. “The owner brings his ideas, and the staff helps figure out what people want to do to have a good time.” Baja Beach Club staff promise to be energetic and prepared to keep the party going. “There’s a conscious effort for things not to get stale.”

The club is at 7000 W. Palmetto Park Road, with doors opening at 10 p.m. on opening night. For more information, visit facebook.com/BajaBoca or call 561/362-7000.
