If you didn’t think your child’s amateur antics in the kitchen were worthy of a prize valued at $5,000, well I have news for you, parents. They just might be. Your Boca kid’s “gourmet PB&J” or “twice baked mac n’ cheese” could net them a BIG Florida 529 Savings Plan if you enter your budding chef in the first-ever 2021 Lunchroom Wars competition hosted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services!
Now is the perfect time to encourage kiddos to experiment in the kitchen (supervised, of course!) and focus on the importance of how proper nutrition impacts academic performance at school.
The competition will be HOT
Florida’s official student chef cook-off, fueled by kids and parents alike making OH SO MANY lunches at home over the past year, offers the chance for kids in the kitchen to showcase their skills for a future educational payoff. Not to mention, they’ll earn the title of 2021 Lunchroom Wars Champion! Organizers even plan to make this an annual event.
How to submit their sizzle
The 2021 Lunchroom Wars competition is open to children between the ages of 7 and 13, though they must be Florida residents to enter. Students can apply by submitting a video preparing their favorite dish using Florida produce at www.lunchroomwars.com. Submissions are due by April 9, 2021, at midnight EST.
A panel of judges will evaluate the submissions and select the top three winners to participate in a virtual cook-off. The top three winners will be announced on April 16, 2021, and the virtual cook-off will take place the week of May 10-14, 2021. The first-place winner will secure a $5,000 Florida 529 Savings Plan, with the second and third place winners securing $3,000 and $2,000 plans, respectively.
And if their food falls flat?
You can still purchase your tiny chef a Florida 529 Prepaid Plan through April 30! Enrollment is open and I just so happen to have a promo code (BOCA2021) that will save you $25 on your application fee. More information about different plan options is available on Florida Prepaid’s website.
