Maven Opens on Palm Beach for First Full Season

Even though Maven served a Thanksgiving dinner this year, the official opening day was last week, as owner David Silva and staff returned for the first full season of this venue on Palm Beach. Billed as an American brasserie, these are the same folks who own Nantucket’s Galley Beach restaurant. At the end of our season, they will close and head north.

This is the same spot that housed former Nick & Johnnie’s and longtime fave Chuck & Harold’s, right on the corner of Royal Poinciana Way and South County Road. Interior set-up is the same both inside and for the outside patio, and the food is good, judging from the jumbo lump crab cake and crab salad I ordered recently. The cocktail talent was evident, too, such as Rosemary’s Baby (pictured above).

It’s nice to have a venue there offering breakfast, too, because watching the Palm Beachers promenade as you sip mimosas is one of the area’s delights. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and brunch on the weekends.

Speaking of holiday cocktails…

Let’s kick off the month with some tasty, fun, colorful and tropical holiday drinks. Some to try:

Run Rudolph at Miracle Bar

Miracle Bar: Both in West Palm Beach’s CityPlace and in Delray Beach’s Death or Glory, where it debuted last year as part of the national pop-up feature. Along with great cocktail names are good drinks in fun glassware (available for purchase, too). Here’s the Run Rudolph (pictured above). Miracle on Rosemary, 550 S. Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach; Miracle at Death or Glory, 116 NE 6th Ave., Delray Beach

Eggnog Martini at City Cellar

City Cellar Wine Bar & Grill: Try the Holiday eggnog martini (pictured above). Here’s the mouthwatering recipe: Mix 2.25 ounces of house-created spiced cinnamon barrel-strength whiskey, add 2 ounces of house-made eggnog. Garnished with nutmeg and cinnamon stick. 700 S. Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach; 561/366-0071; citycellarwpb.com

Pumpkin Milkshake at Burger Bar

Burger Bar: A long day of holiday shopping means you need this spiked pumpkin milkshake (pictured above) with an added Captain Morgan spice rum floater. Oh, yes, you do.  4650 Donald Ross Road, Palm Beach Gardens; 561/630-4545; burgerbar.com
