Moquila Gets New Life in Boca

Moquila, one of SoFla’s first and most prominent purveyors of upscale Mexican cuisine, is scheduled to be reborn this Tuesday under the direction of new owner and former Fort Lauderdale restaurateur Carlos Caballero

The new Moquila will continue in the same culinary direction as its predecessor, this time with ex-New York chef Alex Rodriguez running the kitchen. Among the dishes slated for dishing are lamb “lollipops” with papaya salsa and ancho chili demiglace, grilled salmon with guava barbecue glaze and Mexican-style paella with a wealth of fish and shellfish.

Lovers of more familiar Mexican fare needn’t despair, however, as old faves like ceviche, tacos, guacamole made tableside and more will also be on the menu, as well as signature margaritas and a roster of cocktails and coffee drinks

As for the restaurant proper, Caballero said he basically did a bit of cosmetic updating to the already stylish space, which seats 150 indoors and out. To celebrate the grand (re)opening, for a limited time he’ll be giving diners a free margarita or sangria with their dinner order. There’s also a happy hour from 3 to 7 p.m., as good an excuse as any to check the place out.
