Lake Worth has certainly struggled during the Great Recession of the past few years, but the coming debut of the reborn Casino on Lake Worth Beach has to be one of the bright spots.
Though the rest of the Casino isn’t open yet, one of the anchor tenants,Mulligan’s Beach House Bar & Grill (10 S. Ocean Blvd., 561/588-4130) is already up and running, dishing breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus a roster crowd-pleasing tropical drinks.
The Lake Worth Mulligan’s is the fifth for proprietor George Hart, whose four other eateries are in Central Florida. Along with panoramic beach and ocean views, Hart’s newest restaurant offers a comfortable, colorful upscale fish shack feel, with hardwood and terrazzo floors, sea foam walls lined with stylized paintings of fish, and a large rectangular bar in the center of the dining room with a backlit glass top in whimsical wave design.
The lengthy menu is all about accessible, affordable, family-friendly fare, with breakfast dishes from biscuits and gravy to stuffed french toast to all manner of egg dishes, including several variations on the Benedict theme. Lunch and dinner menus include a roster of burgers, sandwiches and sliders, plus heavy-on-the-seafood apps from smoked fish dip to coconut shrimp, and entrees from crab-stuffed grouper and jerk shrimp to pastas and a handful of beef and chicken dishes.
Most entrée prices are under $20, with apps and sammies, et al, ranging from $10 to $15. Parking is still a little dicey, and probably will be until the Casino project is completed, but once that happens and word gets out, Mulligan’s ought to be pretty popular.
