While every day could call for a hamburger, let’s make sure to celebrate the one day officially named National Burger Day, May 28. It also happens to be Memorial Day this year, so I think the burger vs hotdogs contest is over before it begins.
Here are some places for burgers that may have slipped off your map:
Celebrating May as National Burger Month, on Tuesdays here pay $7 to build your own 10-ounce steak burgers (pictured). Mizner Park, 409 Plaza Real, Boca Raton; 561/672-7301; juniorscheesecake.com
Grease Burger Bar
With 17 burgers on the menu, including the veggie burger, you pick from 15 toppings. You can start off with the Mr. Bigg, which is a 12-ounce beauty with pecan bacon, frizzled onions, pepper jack cheese and garlic aioli. 213 Clematis St., West Palm Beach; 561/651-1075; greasewpb.com
To celebrate the holiday, Executive Chef Miguel Santiago has these options: The Classic (brisket/short rib patty with sharp cheddar, thick-cut bacon, etc.); The Meat Lover (Wagyu beef, shaved brisket, pancetta crisp, fried onions, etc.); The Impossible (plant-based filet patty with vegan mozzarella on non-dairy sourdough roll); The Salmon, salmon patty, sweet chili, spicy mayo. Hilton West Palm Beach, 600 Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach; 561/231-6100; hilton.com
A Premium House Blend Burger (pictured) here means a patty topped with garlic aioli, caramelized onion jam and melted Swiss. Also, starting May 28, the $6 Burger Night starts every Monday, where you can create your own burger and add your choice of toppings. 4580 PGA Blvd., Palm Beach Gardens; 561/622-3222; proseccocafe.com
The Beauty and The Beeeef
Yes, the name of this new retro, rock ‘n’ roll restaurant is really spelled that way. You can tell that burgers are their thing—from the mushroom burger (pictured) to the Cowboy (spicy with cayenne and roasted red peppers, smoked bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, BBQ sauce, lettuce, tomato), you can find a patty to meat (pun intended) your needs. Wellington Green mall, 10300 W. Forest Hill Blvd., Wellington; 561/612-4511; thebeautyandthebeeeef.com
Habit Burger Grill
A new creation here is the guacamole crunch charburger topped with a tostada shell, guacamole pico de gallo, melted cheese and ancho chile lime sauce. Ole! All locations, Delray Beach, Royal Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens; habitburger.com
Death or Glory
A popular choice is the new vegan burger (pictured), with forbidden rice, mushrooms, onions, beets, tamari and vegan Worcestershire sauce. On a potato bun with caramelized onions, pickles, sun-dried, no-egg tomato aioli. 116 NE Sixth Ave., Delray Beach; 561/808-8814; deathorglorybar.com
OK, now I’m hungry.
