Great Local Spots To Celebrate National Margarita Day

On the Rocks or Frozen: That Is the Question

Just the mention of tequila may make some squirm, but blending it with zesty lime juice, triple sec (Cointreau), agave syrup and a salt rim makes this liquor both manageable and delicious in its new form as a cool margarita. Whether you’d rather sip on it on the rocks or have the ice blended in, getting the perfect balance of sweet and tangy flavors is the key to this refreshing cocktail.

To celebrate National Margarita Day (which is today!) we’ve compiled the best spots to enjoy this Mexican export.

Rocco’s Tacos & Tequila Bar: Skinny Señorita

It may be a light cocktail, but this drink is bursting with the margarita’s signature flavors. Partida Blanco tequila is shaken with agave nectar, fresh lime juice and aquafaba and then served in a delicate coupe glass and garnished with bright edible flowers.

5250 Town Center Cir, Boca Raton; 561/416.2131;

Avocado Cantina: El Toro

Served at this sister restaurant of the famed Avocado Grill, this margarita is made with smoky mezcal instead of tequila to spice up your day. (Mezcal is an agave-based liquor that can include a variety of agaves, while tequila is only made from 100% blue agave.) The drink’s spicy factor is elevated with fresh ginger and an árbol chile garnish.

11701 Lake Victoria Gardens Ave, Palm Beach Gardens; 561/766.2430;

City Oyster: Tommy’s Margarita

If you’re looking for a classic margarita, this is it. Espolòn Blanco tequila is mixed with fresh squeezed lime juice and agave nectar and then served with a kosher salted rim.

213 E Atlantic Ave, Delray Beach; 561/272.0220;

Sweetwater: The Yuzu

Reposado tequila blended with Yuzu juice gives this margarita a citrus profile that’s balanced with Nori infused agave. Nori, which is the seaweed used to make sushi rolls, gives the drink a unique umami flavor.

1507 S Federal Hwy, Boynton Beach; 561/509.9277;

The Butcher and The Bar: Berry Spicy

Head over to this quaint neighborhood bar for a berry-tastic margarita. Corazon Blanco tequila is mixed with lime juice, spicy mixed berry syrup and finished off with a smoked salt rim.

 510 E Ocean Ave Unit 101, Boynton Beach; 561/903.7630;

Farmer’s Table: Butterfly Margarita

Known for its healthy but delicious fare, the cocktails at this cherished Boca restaurant also don’t disappoint. This drink is made with One With Life organic tequila mixed with organic agave, passion fruit and grapefruit juice that give it a citrus finish.

1901 N Military Trail, Boca Raton; 561/417.5836;

Waterstone Rum Bar & Grill: Mango Margarita

Relax by the water while sipping on this tropical concoction. El Jimador tequila is added to a mango puree and then finished off with a salt rim to give this margarita that perfect balance of sweet and salty.

999 E Camino Real, Boca Raton; 561/368.9500;
