New Chipotle, Sweet Tomatoes Open

It’s a sign of the times that one segment of the restaurant industry still doing well are the ever-growing “fast casual” (and inexpensive) chains of eateries.

Two more have set up shop in the area. In Boynton Beach it’s the eighth localSweet Tomatoes (1100 N. Congress Ave., 561/369-0666). It features a 45-foot salad bar loaded with salads, soups, breads, pastas and desserts, all part of a rotating selection of more than 100 items at an all-you-can-eat price.

In Coral Springs it’s the latest Chipotle Mexican Grill (4220 State Road 7, 954-960-4000), No. 19 for South Florida. All the usual taco, burrito and salad suspects are on the menu, assembled to order and one of the better quick and cheap dining options around.

In other Chipotle news, it’s been reported that the company will be bringing the same concept to an Asian-style restaurant, which it expects to roll out sometime next year. That can’t be good news to the Pei Wei chain of faux-Asian eateries, whose food could use some real improvement.
