One-Person Food Pop-Ups Take the Cake, and Dinner

My favorite stories about fellow humans are the ones that involve creativity and care. If food is included, that just makes them perfect.

I’ve been seeing a lot of our local folks create that combo and I wanted to share two of them with you. As with everything I report about, please let me know about other locals who are doing the same kind of effort now.

I’m talking about the single-person local, pop-up food companies. The names behind these projects are hard-working, talented cooks and bakers. Try their wares; give them some support.

I Cater To You was started by Paula Waxman and offers delivery to a small, 5-mile radius around Swinton and Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. But she offers curbside pickup for everyone. The only downside is her popularity, because her menu sells out fairly quickly. It seems that’s because her food is both tasty and affordable.

Find her on Facebook and email your order there, too: @icatertoyoudelraybeach. She specializes in “heat and eat” dinners (order of two minimum) for $18 per person or less. This week: Name your stuffed pepper (chicken Parmesan, Mexican ground beef, classic Italian) or Chicken Milanese. Cost: $35 for two, or $65 for family of four. All dinners include salads and dessert. The menu changes weekly.

Speaking of desserts and pastry and baking, also take a look at pastry chef Anna Bakes (Instagram: @annabakesfl) for Anna Ross’s creations. She has experience from working at Aioli, at The Breakers, and also under the tutelage of Zak the Baker in earlier years.

She sells boxes of beautiful baked goods for pickup on Sundays, or for a limited delivery area on Sunday afternoons in her Lake Worth area.

These sell out quickly, too, and here’s an example of why. Her goodies box this past weekend was a tribute to Florida: four Creamsicle whoopie pies, four Key lime bars, four guava & cheese pop tarts (box is $30). She also bakes an English muffin loaf, mango bread, carrot cake loaf and more. Enough to keep you in sweets – or to make you the hit of your next BFF brunch.

Just message her on Instagram for all the details.
