Palm Sugar Coming to WPB


The remaking of Clematis Street into Restaurant Row North continues will the coming debut of Palm Sugar Asian Grills & Dessert Bar, a contemporary pan-Asian eatery that on Monday, March 26, will throw open its doors in the spot formerly occupied by short-lived Bahama Mama’s.

Palm Sugar is the brainchild of Sang Chirdchid, a veteran of restaurants in New York, Washington D.C. and Chicago, who’s brought in his sister, nicknamed Rose, as executive chef.

Not surprisingly, the funky Caribbean-esque look of Bahama Mama’s will be replaced by a hipper, more contemporary design, that features two-tone wood paneling on the walls, industrial-style light fixtures, concrete dessert bar and gleaming cedar tables.

The menu promises “comfort food with Asian-inspired flavors,” which means in your mouth dishes like Asian pear pork belly buns, Malaysian beef satay tacos, honey-sesame-ginger chicken wings, and desserts with an Asian flair from cupcakes to trio of crème brulees (Thai tea, green tea and vanilla).

And in what should be good news to the legion of office workers who toil in downtown West Palm, Palm Sugar will be open for breakfast as well as lunch and dinner, serving a limited menu of coffee, tea and pastries before lunch service, which will focus on quick, moderately priced items like rice and noodle bowls and stir-fries.
