Prime Cigar & Wine Bar Lights Up in Boca

In today’s “Just say no” society with the Fun Police lurking around every corner, it does this unabashed old hedonist good to see there’s still a place where you can enjoy a good cigar and strong drink in a comfortable and elegant space.

That’s the deal with Prime Cigar & Wine Bar (2240 NW 19th St., 561/613-6130), a celebration of high-quality smokes, boutique wines and premium spirits that’s taken up residence just off of Glades Road in Boca Raton.

It’s also a tribute to the father of partner Ryan Leeds, a lifelong wine and cigar buff who passed away in an untimely auto accident. Leeds, a former financial executive, gathered three other partners to open Prime, which general manager Will Jackson says most resembles a “Manhattan social club.”

That means lots of dark wood, slate floor, blown-glass fixtures, a 300-square-foot walk-in humidor holding some 17,000 “sticks,” plus a full bar that offers some three-dozen wines, mostly from boutique producers, as well as 18 small-batch bourbons and 52 single-malt scotches. There’s also a 2,250-pound, state-of-the-art air-filtration system so you can smoke a cigar without smelling like one. No food, but Prime has arrangements with several nearby restaurants to deliver orders, and what they won’t deliver, Prime will pick up.

Sorry, Fun Police. You lose this round.
