Fill your stomach. Stretch a buck. Here are some new real meal deals from a pair of local restaurants.
At La Scaletta (1201 Hwy. 1, 561/630-8500) in North Palm Beach, chef-owner Giordy Tonelli and chef Raffaele Lombardi are dishing all-you-can-eat pizza and pasta from a selected menu every Thursday evening from 5 to 10 p.m. on restaurant’s outdoor patio. And if that doesn’t do it for you or you want to escape the summer heat and humidity indoors, from now to Oct. 1 you can slice 15 percent off your entire check, including beer, wine or your beverage of choice.
La Scaletta’s gastronomic duo will also be holding a series of four cooking classes in June and July. Classes will run from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 23 and 30 and July 14. Each class will focus on a different dish: stuffed zucchini, eggplant gnocchi, a meat or fish entrée, and tortini di ricotta. Cost is $65 per class or $220 for the series. Call the restaurant to reserve a spot.
And at Dennis Max’s estimable Max’s Harvest (169 NE 2ndAve., 561/381-9970) in Delray Beach, this week marks the start of a new happy hour. Monday through Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., wine, beer, well drinks and a featured cocktail will cost all of $5.
On a somewhat related note, I recently got word that Max’s Assaggio del Forno(3011 Yamato Rd., 561/613-6460) in Boca has revamped its menu, moving away from its small plates orientation towards a more traditional appetizer-entrée selection. They also dropped several more interesting dishes (veal flank steak, wood oven-roasted branzino, cavatelli carbonara and others) while adding such hoary old Italian-American standbys as veal piccata, chicken marsala and lemon-roasted chicken.
