Real Meal Deals, the Sequel

Delray’s charming little patch of tropical paradise, Sundy House (106 S. Swinton Ave., 561/272-5678), has a new Swiss-trained chef and prix fixe summer menu. Taking over in the kitchen is Denise Girard, whose eclectic resume includes stints at The Raw Kitchen in West Palm and The Office in Delray. Girard’s “3 for $33” menu offers such choices warm goat cheese napoleon and tuna tartare stack, salmon scallopini and braised short ribs, and chocolate mousse or trio of house-made cookies.

At Clay Conley’s superb Palm Beach restaurant, Buccan (350 S. County Rd., 561/833-3450), they’re also offering an excellent summer special. This one’s called “Summer Sundays,” the chance to taste Conley’s expertly prepared all over the culinary map fare for the exceedingly reasonable price of $26.50 per person. The dinner is served family style and the menu changes weekly, but just to give you an idea. . . last week’s meal was a Low Country boil—shrimp, crawfish, andouille sausage, corn on the cob and new potatoes. Previous dinners have had barbecue and Moroccan themes, so start revving your taste buds now.

And at Rosalita’s Tex Mex Grill (5949 S. Congress Ave., 561/964-5747), the always-bustling Atlantis restaurant has its “2-4-$20” deal. Every day before 6 p.m. two hungry diners can shell out a misely 20 bucks for a shared appetizer (crab nachos, stuffed jalapenos, Mexican fondue and the like), a pair of entrees (from drunken shrimp taco to cheese enchilada to beef burro), and then a shared dessert (flan, sopapillo or vanilla ice cream).

If you’ve got to put up with South Florida summer’s heat, humidity and hurricanes, the least you can do is eat well for cheap.
