As I look back on the year so far, there are so many moments I could pick out as being #blessed. I really love being a mom of a happy, healthy little girl. I love that there are always family oriented things to do in Boca Raton and beyond. And now more than ever, I love that so many of our local kids are getting focused on community involvement. Even my 3 year-old has found a way to give back this holiday season! Here are a few reasons I am grateful as a Boca mom this Thanksgiving.
Working together to make sure local kids have the basics
Last week, I had the pleasure of watching my child, along with other Grandview Preparatory School students in preschool through grade 12, pack up 700 care packages for Back to Basics’ Angel Program. This program helps underprivileged children in our area receive the ‘Basics’ like new sneakers, socks, underwear and even a small toy every holiday season. Over half of the children they put packages together for are living in poverty out in the Glades. The other recipients are closer to Boca Raton, but also living in poverty—many even homeless. I’m so glad that these students are learning early (and often) how to give back.
An opportunity to open up every mind to science
Just in time for holiday break, a brand new, 18-Hole Miniature Conservation Course is now open at the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium! The Conservation Course educates guests about natural Florida habitats, specifically the Everglades, since each hole is named for animals or habitats indigenous to South Florida. Players of all ages can enjoy the course and its babbling brooks, butterfly gardens and lush green landscaping. It’s a golf experience that aims to open up every mind to science! I’m grateful that there are so many opportunities like this for fun AND learning in South Florida.
Healthy food on the quick
My favorite restaurant in town, Farmer’s Table, just launched Farmer’s Table Express, a “slow food fast” takeout option that gives families the opportunity to bring home healthy and delicious dishes for relaxed home dining. With the chaos of the holiday season now upon us, I am really excited that this is an option. Many of the dishes found at Farmer’s Table Express are vacuumed sealed which allows the meals to maintain their freshness longer and retain more nutrients. You can even pick up prepared and ready-to-eat meals for the week! I’m so happy this is available for the nights that I have more important things on my ‘to do’ list than cooking.
For all of this and more, I am thankful. Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving!
