Sefa Mediterranean Grill Opens in Delray

Delray’s restaurant scene grows ever larger and more diverse with the debut of Sefa Mediterranean Grill (165 NE 2nd Ave., 561/330-0004) next door to Allen Susser’s now-shuttered Taste Gastropub in the Pineapple Grove neighborhood.

Turkish chef-owner Numan Unsal is preparing the cuisine of his native country, with a few vaguely Mediterranean dishes thrown in for good measure. What that means in your mouth are familiar dishes like hummus, babaganoush, gyro and shish kabob, along with whole grilled dorado with arugula salad, lentil kofte and smoked eggplant salad, along with such ubiquities as Caesar salad and fettuccine Alfredo.

Prices are more than friendly, with starters averaging $8 and all but two entrees coming in under $20.

As for the restaurant itself, it’s a classy looking space where contemporary paintings contrast with Victorian-esque furnishings and ornate chandeliers. There’s also belly dancing on Friday and Saturday nights so go ahead and shake your falafel.
