Getting the bad news out of the way first, the local restaurant bloodletting continues unabated. Say “Do svidaniya” to Russia House, which took over the floundering Andrew’s on Southeast Mizner Boulevard and hoped to find an audience for its classical Russian-slash-Eastern European cuisine. I guess not. And it’s a sad “Andio” for Estia Greek Tavern & Bar in Royal Palm Place, another spot that’s seen several restaurant occupants arrive and depart. The whole thing is starting to look like Restaurant Death Watch. . . and there are still many months to go before “season” begins and business picks back up.
On a happier note, while your choices of Russian and Greek cuisines are each reduced by one, your choice of all kinds of cool foods, from “gourmet” to everyday, will be drastically improved when Trader Joe’s opens on South Federal Highway just down the street from Royal Palm Place. The 12,500-square-foot store is expected to debut sometime next year, part of SoFla expansion that will include Joe’s in Palm Beach Gardens and Pinecrest.
