Staff Picks: Burgers and Rock

Shake Shack

Picked by Megan Kearney, editorial intern

“It’s hard to resist a burger, fries and a shake every once in a while. Luckily, Shake Shack fills that craving immediately with its simple-yet-scrumptious burgers, crinkle cut fries and a multitude of frozen custard treats and shakes to choose from. With quick and easy service, it’s definitely my new go-to for satisfying my burger craving and having a much-needed cheat day.”

Ken Stringfellow

Picked by John Thomason, managing editor

“Ken Stringfellow is a name that might only be familiar with the college rock set, if there’s still such a thing as college rock. But if you have even a passing interest in alternative rock music, you’ve heard his recordings, because his discography includes more than 200 albums. The versatile guitarist co-founded the power-pop cult gods The Posies in the early ‘90s, became a touring and session player for R.E.M. throughout the Aughts, and performed in the re-formed Big Star in 2010; most recently, he joined Marky Ramone’s legacy act honoring the Ramones. And now he’s visiting lil’ ol’ Boca! Stringfellow will be performing solo at the uber-intimate Lion & Eagle Pub tonight (July 22 at 8 p.m.). He’s been improvising set lists nightly on this solo tour, but expect to hear a smattering of Posies songs along with some covers and cuts from his solo albums. Tickets cost $10.”
