Take an ‘American Roadtrip’ at Top of the Point

Take a gastronomic journey across the country without ever leaving PBC with the series of “American Roadtrip” dinners at West Palm’s Top of the Point (777 S. Flagler Dr., 561/832-2424).

The restaurant atop the Phillips Point East Tower with the spectacular city and Intracoastal views is hosting 10 dinners through the end of September, each celebrating a different region of the country. Among those coming up are Wisconsin, the Napa Valley, Los Angeles, Texas and New Orleans.

If you want to see the complete schedule, plus the menu for this week’s dinner channeling New York’s Hudson Valley, go to Cost is $39.50 per person for a three-course meal.

Last week I checked out the Nantucket dinner, and am happy to report that recently appointed top toque Brian Schuyler is turning out some seriously good food, no matter what region he’s drawing inspiration from.

A few of the highlights: Sea-sweet Ipswich clams in a rich, buttery, dill-infused broth good enough to drink like fine wine; delicate, flaky Chatham day-boat cod with Meyer lemon meuniere sauce and the positively inspired addition of a single, peeled and intensely smoked tomato; filets of fluke in an achingly rich but equally luscious tomato-lobster beurre blanc studded with fat chunks of lobster; and a homey dessert of flash-roasted stone fruits with creamy plum gelato.

Go for the view. But stay for the food.
