The Fit Life, Vol. 19

Short distance: If you’re up for a last-minute run, there’s still time to join the Dreher Park Night and Day 10K. This is two events in one. There’s a 5K (3.1-mile) run on Saturday (July 20) at Dreher Park in downtown West Palm Beach, followed Aug. 17 by another 5K run. Your times, combined, could earn you a “10K” award the night of the second race.

This Saturday’s race starts at 7:15 a.m.; starting time on Aug. 17 is 6:30 p.m. Cost for the two events is $55 for adult and $30 for students. Call 561/596-0445 or go to for additional information.

Long distance: Those who view 5K races as morning strolls may want to check out the Escape to Miami triathlon, Sunday, Sept. 29. An Olympic-distance race at Margaret Pace Park/Escape Island (1745 N. Bayshore Drive) starts at 7 a.m. A sprint-distance race begins at 8:45 a.m. There’s a mandatory check-in Sept. 28, so you might want to make a Miami weekend of it.If doing the entire swim, bike and run doesn’t sound appealing, enter as a relay team.

Register before Sept. 24, and the cost to do the Olympic distance is $145; sprint distance participants pay $95. Prices are different for relay teams. For more information, visit or call 305/278-8668.
