The Last Word from Lynn Kalber, Our Departing Food Editor

A moveable feast

When I started writing this blog in September 2015, it was in the midst of regular monthlong restaurant specials in SoFla, and the dining choices were limitless.

Since then, I’ve told you about all kinds of special dinners, unusual craft cocktails, noted chefs opening their own restaurants–as well as the never-ending musical chef chairs–and encouraged you to explore Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties as part of the glorious feast available to us.

That feast is still going on, even during a pandemic.

Chefs and restaurant owners have added creative business ideas to go with takeout dinners. They’ve added all kinds of outdoor seating, all kinds of ways to keep their staff and their customers safe, and all kinds of efforts to help those in the hospitality industry, which has lost jobs by the thousands.

I’ve enjoyed bringing it to you, while getting to know your tastes and the amazing people who work so hard to keep you well fed, no matter what else is going on.

This is my last blog for Boca magazine, and I want to thank all of you. I’m moving on to different paths, but you will be in good hands.

Most of all, please support the largest local industry here–the food and drink industry. It drives all else, it needs your help, and you don’t have to spend a fortune to eat wonderful food. You are very fortunate.

A few last wishes:

  • Drink the good wine now. Don’t wait.
  • Tip well, even with takeout meals.
  • Thank everyone around you, every day. Gratitude is contagious.
  • Please stay safe. Please keep those around you safe. Enjoy life as you do that.
  • Bon Appetit!
