It may have taken a little longer than expected (everything in the restaurant business does) but former Havana Hideout chef-owner Chrissy Benoit has finally opened her latest venture, The Little House (480 E. Ocean Ave., 561/420-0573) a total rehab of the 1940-vintage Ruth Jones Cottage in downtown Boynton Beach.
With its wood beam ceiling, hardwood floor and original coral rock fireplace, the 75-seat restaurant has a laid-back, homey, inviting feel, one echoed by the menu of diner and wallet-friendly dishes, from main courses like “old school” chicken ‘n’ dumplings and mac ‘n’ cheese of the day to smoked chicken and grape sliders and Indian butter chicken.
There’s also a weekend brunch with mimosa and Bloody Mary bars, assorted pancakes and pastries, smoked salmon pizza, breakfast burrito and the seriously decadent-sounding, Benedict Benoit, a riff on the classic eggs Benedict that tops savory bread pudding with a poached egg, smoked ham, shaved Parmesan and truffle oil.
But wait, there’s more. Like 20 craft beers on tap, Monday through Friday happy hour (3 to 7 p.m.), and special events from free sunset movies on Mondays to a home brewers brew-off set for sometime in October. Big plans for a little house.
