The Naked Truth, Vol. 66

Angela, I loved you on [MTV’s] “Made.” The girl you tried to help reminded me a lot of my sister, who is just too shy to put herself out there in the dating world. How can I give her that gentle shove without coming off like the pushy sister? —Tina

Thanks Tina! Emily was great to work with on MTV, and we keep in touch regularly. Her transformation since the show has been phenomenal. If you recall, I had to do more than give her a gentle shove sometimes to get her to come out of her shell. Remember the scene where we got in a phone booth with the brothers? Or when I forced her to flirt with the grocery clerk? That was painful!

My suggestion is to get your sister to take a few risks; get her on an online dating site or take her to a bar and strike up a conversation with a cute guy before you walk away and leave them alone. If she wants to find someone, like I always say, they aren’t going to just knock on the front door while you’re on your couch in pajamas!

Treat her to a mini makeover as you start on “Operation Date” project. There’s a huge correlation between feeling confident and how that confidence resonates with the opposite sex. If your sister resists, let her know you are there to help when she’s ready, but until then, I’m sure she will be grateful for the help.

If you had to pick one movie that [mirrored] your dating life, what would it be? —Sienna

Ahhh, Sienna. First thing that comes to mind? “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.”Although I don’t drag men to Celine Dion concerts, or make photo albums of our unborn children (I cringe every time I think of that scene), I usually find a way to sabotage my own dating situations, consciously or unconsciously. At the end of the day, I really, really enjoy being solo. Hey, maybe that’s the movie title that describes my dating life: “Independence Day.”
