With most water parks, splash pads and playgrounds closed this summer, local families are having to get creative with new ways to cool off. Boca moms (especially in Facebook groups) are seeking out staycation destinations that offer some of the “forbidden” amenities cities and municipalities have not opened yet to the public due to COVID-19 concerns. We are fortunate that the majority of homes here have pools and Boca has beautiful beaches nearby, of course. However for this mom (and her daughter), summer in South Florida just isn’t summer without a waterslide!
I had been on a mission to find a resort (within driving distance) that just might be able to bring back some feelings of…well, normalcy amid our state’s current restrictions on a staycation. And, I think I succeeded with the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort & Spa!
This was my family’s second visit to the Palm Beach Marriott SI having gone when my daughter was just a toddler. I remembered the private beach, zero entry pool and waterfalls vividly and couldn’t wait to take my now 7-year-old and my 3-year-old nephew away for a much needed change of summer scenery. We visited during the week, which I highly recommend, as weekends (especially with a reduced hotel capacity) kick off a 2-hour pool reservation system. The system was already in place at the adult pool during our stay, but with two waterpark-deprived kids, we didn’t spend any time there. The waterslide was the main priority on this particular visit.
The reservation system allows the Marriott team to disinfect all chairs and tables for everyone’s safety. I appreciate measures like this. I was also grateful that all staff wore masks. (Our stay was prior to the Palm Beach County mandate on masks in public spaces, so we simply did our best to social distance at the time.) Additional safety measures there included all food from the pool’s Lagoon Cantina being served takeout-style (vs. table service), reduced dine-in restaurant capacities at 3800 Ocean, and social distancing markers all over the property.
For the record, I felt safe. Really safe. Especially once we got to our 2-bedroom suite. The Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island is our county’s only all-suite, beachfront hotel and it was made for families. Each room has a full kitchen AND a washer/dryer. The amount of food and drinks we packed for the room didn’t even make a dent filling up the refrigerator. Not only did we have enough space to have our QuaranTEAM over for drinks and an evening beach walk, my daughter was also able to have an impromptu sleep over with a friend IN HER OWN ROOM within our suite. This is the way to do a staycation.
Don’t even get me started on the views from the balcony…
One thing to keep in mind regarding the rooms (and I believe this is being done at many resorts) is that full housekeeping service is now being provided every third day of your stay. So, if you’ll only be there for the weekend, you’ll need to contact the front desk for housekeeping limited service if you’d like your trash picked up, fresh towels and amenities replenished. I didn’t read this fine print while checking in, so was puzzled when the beds weren’t made on day 2!
While this resort normally offers a Kid’s Club, activities are not being offered right now due to the pandemic. So, if you can manage some childcare during your visit, I highly recommend checking out the resort’s award-winning SiSpa, which offers sea-inspired pampering and wellness services. They were just getting going again when we visited, so I was able to indulge in a mommy manicure/pedicure. Just keep in mind that services are by appointment only and certain menu offerings have been temporarily suspended. Steam rooms are also not available due to CDC guidelines, but the Fitness Center is open 24/7 and full of disinfecting wipes! Because we all know that’s where moms want to spend most of their free time…
My family and I really had the best visit. I never thought I’d say this, but it was a treat *not* sleeping in our own beds for a few nights. If we have to be “stuck” in South Florida this summer, I’m glad we have a destination like the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island to sneak off to!
Disclosure: Olson-Rogers was recently hosted for two nights at the Palm Beach Marriott Singer Island for review consideration.
