Periodontics & Dental Implants
Board-certified periodontist Dr. Thomas Copulos is a graduate of Emory University, Case Western Reserve School of Dentistry and University of Florida School of Dental Medicine. He received his specialty training in periodontics and personally trained with Dr. John Chao, the pioneer of the Pinhole Surgical Technique, a revolutionary scalpel-free and suture-free treatment. “I am delighted to be one of a select few periodontists in Boca Raton to offer this service to my patients,” Dr. Copulos says. He takes a holistic approach to patient care and designs custom comprehensive treatment plans for his patients. In addition, his clinical interests include dental implants, surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapy and bone grafting for dental implants.
Q: What safety precautions do you provide in the age of Covid?
Patients can feel comfortable with the utmost in cleanliness and sanitizing measures being taken in our office. We take each patient’s temperature before they come in; we limit the number of patients being seen at one time; we use an antiviral rinse prior to the start of any procedure and we disinfect the air with a mister, hypochlorous acid after patients leave the office.
Q: Do you recommend patients delay dental procedures during these times?
I never feel it is a good idea to ignore dental health, whether routine, cosmetic or emergency. However, I understand that many patients have felt the impact of Covid and have lost their jobs or insurance. For that reason, we have implemented a membership plan that will help reduce fees for those patients and enable them to get the care they need.
Q: What other dental procedures are gaining popularity?
Along with the Pinhole Technique, I am also doing more with immediate implant placement which involves taking teeth out and putting implants in immediately, so patients can leave with a tooth in place so they don’t have to walk around with a missing tooth. About 50 percent of the time they can leave with an appliance made with a tooth on it, depending upon the bone support they have.
