When it comes to winter, there’s honestly nowhere I’d rather be than South Florida. I mean, who wouldn’t agree? There’s no snow to shovel, no coats to don, and no need to bundle up your children in inconvenient layers and stuffy stroller covers. I especially love that there are so many places near Boca Raton where resident families can spend the day…and it feels like a vacation. West Palm Beach just happens to be one of those places!
Here are some of my favorite ways to “win at winter” in West Palm with your family this season:
Visit England without the plane ride
Whether or not you’ve binge watched the television series, “Downton Abbey,” there’s something magical about the Downton Exhibition visiting West Palm Beach through April 22, 2019. Your family (kids 14 and under are free with a paying adult) will feel as though you’ve been transported to post-Edwardian England as you make your way through the iconic fashions and beloved house from the show’s six seasons. Downton Abbey: The Exhibition only takes about 60 to 90 minutes to visit and because it’s located in the former Macy’s space in CityPlace, why not grab lunch, dinner or ice cream in the open air plaza afterwards?
See the ultimate winter home
There are very few things more “Florida” than Whitehall, the Flagler Museum located on Palm Beach Island. Henry Flagler, co-founder of Standard Oil and the man responsible for the Florida East Coast Railway, has an amazing story. The whole family (kids 5 and under are free and ages 6-12 are only $3) will enjoy learning about Florida history while touring Flagler’s Palm Beach estate, his “winter home”, with over 100,000 square feet and 75+ rooms. Definitely don’t miss out on seeing Flagler’s private railcar located in the Kenan Pavilion!

Enjoy year-round water sports
Have you ever tried stand-up paddle boarding (SUP)? How about kayaking? Even though it’s a bit south of West Palm, we love the Sunset/Moonlight Tour on the water with Paddle Away Sports in Boynton Beach. Ideal for ages 5 and up, this unique tour offers your family a grand view of the sun setting and the moon rising in the night’s (weather permitting) starry sky. The atmosphere on the water is peaceful, calm and well…spectacular! Tours begin 45-60 minutes prior to the sun setting and private options are available (you must also book 24 hours in advance).
Enjoy the next few months ahead, Boca moms! It will be hot and humid again before we know it.
