Zach Bell Makes James Beard Semifinals

Perhaps third time’s a charm for Zach Bell, chef of the estimable Cafe Boulud(301 Australian Ave., 561/655-6060) in Palm Beach, who earned another shot at being named Best Chef South for 2011 by the James Beard Foundation.

Also making the Best Chef South award semifinals is James Dean Max, chef at3030 Ocean (3030 Holiday Dr., 954/765-3030) in Fort Lauderdale, who joinsPhilippe Ruiz of Palme d -Or in Coral Gables as this year’s three South Florida candidates.

Other SoFla semifinalists are Miami’s Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill for Best New Restaurant, Myles Chefetz of Myles Restaurant Group for Outstanding Restaurateur, Yvonne Roberts of the Biltmore for Outstanding Wine Service, and Sam Gorenstein of BLT Steak for Rising Star Chef of the Year.

The winners will be announced on May 9 at the Beard Foundation awards dinner in New York City.
