When I think about vacationing with my family in Florida, Miami isn’t the city that naturally jumps out at me. Having a six-year-old daughter and two-year-old nephew, our families usually head to Central Florida, where theme parks abound on every corner. But there’s something special about Miami Beach. It’s full of culture. It’s cool. It’s only an hour car ride south of Boca Raton. And there, “in the heart of the city, at the edge of the sea” exists a modern, comfortable yet family-friendly staycation destination that not only cares about mom and dad, but your kiddos as well. I’m talking about Eden Roc Miami Beach.
Having undergone complete makeover a little over a year ago, this is not the Eden Roc your parents and grandparents used to visit. This sophisticated property prides itself on having something for everyone. If you’re a foodie, Nobu is right there. If you’re a spa enthusiast, Esencia Wellness on the property is unreal. And if you’re a kid, well…the resort is your oyster.
My family and I were invited to experience Eden Roc recently, and the wonderful folks there decided that our daughter Avery would be the perfect guinea pig for some of the new programs they’re rolling out in time for season. Let’s just say that we all wanted to be her after the weekend was over. Here’s why…

BeCo Kids
These days, when we go on a trip, it’s not considered a vacation (for me OR my daughter) unless there’s entertainment and childcare. This Boca Raton parent loves a good Kids Club. So, it’s no wonder Eden Roc decided to launch their BeCo Kids program (pronounced beek-oh) this fall for little ones ages 4-12.
A full or half-day program (plus optional after hours babysitting), kids are invited to explore oceanside and enjoy activities that teach them about our beaches, marine life and local culture. The BeCo Kids headquarters is brand new and has its own bathrooms and showers, so your kids can be on their own for most (or all) of the day. Our daughter especially enjoyed the art projects and I found the staff to be top notch!
Little Esencia
Whether you’re craving a Mommy & Me spa experience or simply want your little one to get a taste of the glamorous life, Eden Roc’s Little Esencia spa menu is truly out of this world! You can book a mini-manicure, pedicure, 25-minute facial or massage for your child at Esencia Wellness and add one on for yourself while you’re at it.
Avery couldn’t get over being pampered at a “grownup spa.” It was a riot seeing her get her first massage and facial! However, Boca moms and dads should take note that for this part of the BeCo Kids program, a parent or guardian must accompany the child in the treatment room.
Pizza Making Class at Malibu Farm
This is probably where our family had the most fun: watching our daughter receive professional instruction from a Malibu Farm chef on how to make the best pizza. If you don’t know about Malibu Farm, it’s the South Florida outpost of Helene Henderson’s Californian restaurant which boasts simple (yet delicious) farm-to-table dining that is organic and locally sourced whenever possible.

Donning a chef’s hat and apron, our culinary kid created a pizza masterpiece for herself (and us) using fresh and local ingredients while enjoying an icy lemonade…and the restaurant’s gorgeous ocean view. At the end of the class, not only did Avery get to eat the spoils of her labor, but she also received a special certificate of completion. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday evening, eh?
If you’re looking for a family staycation not far from home, consider glamorous Miami Beach for your next trip. If anything, your kids will certainly thank you.
