Chef Eric Baker Buys Rebel House

West Palm Beach’s loss is definitely Boca’s gain on this one.

Popular restaurant The Rebel House was just sold by Owner/Chef Mike Saperstein to new Owner/Chef Eric Baker. If Baker’s name seems familiar, that’s because he worked at Café Boulud, Max’s Harvest and, most recently, Mazie’s, which he named after his grandmother and founded with Jason and Sandra Lakow (they are still at Mazie’s).

Baker also worked at Steak 954 and Lobster Bar Sea Grille in Fort Lauderdale and studied at L’ecole (Ritz) Escoffier in Paris.

Rebel House is a lively venue known as much for its wild décor as for its imaginative dishes and excellent cocktails. Chef Baker is admired for his creativity in the kitchen, too, so this is a mind meld, a food meld and, we hope, an all-around simpatico pairing.

Musical chef chairs: ‘Who’s in the kitchen now?’

  • Chef James Strine now creates at the Trophy Room in Wellington. He opened Hai House in Palm Beach, and before that was at Buccan, Grato and Café Boulud.
  • Chef Bruce Feingold, at Delray’s Dada for many years, is now creating at Deck 84 in Delray.
