Dos Caminos Debuts in Sheraton Fort Lauderdale

It’s not every day an upscale South Florida hotel installs a contemporary Mexican restaurant as its top-tier dining option, but the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale is definitely thinking outside the bun with the recent debut of Dos Caminos (1140 Seabreeze Blvd., 954-727-7090).

The Lauderdale restaurant is the sixth link in the New York-based chain, whose only other eatery outside the city is in Las Vegas. Its sleek, minimalist decor is also way outside the traditional “ethnic” Mexican design bun, combining a spare industrial ethos with historical art and graffiti-like elements.

It’s a huge place too – 200 seats indoors and another 90 outside – with an extensive roster of tequilas and custom-made margaritas.

The food menu is rather less eclectic than the restaurant’s design, reprising all the usual Mexican favorites, from made-to-order guacamole and queso fundido to tacos and quesadillas and enchiladas to house specialties like Chilean sea bass Veracruz and bacon-wrapped ribeye steak with chimichurri.
