New Openings: I Heart Mac & Cheese Food Truck, Don Chepo’s and Crazy Uncle Mike’s

I Heart Mac & Cheese takes over a food truck

Food truck franchises are a big thing in South Florida, and Hector Gonzalez, a former manager of I Heart Mac & Cheese, took that to heart when he purchased the first food truck for this brand.

“No one is doing mac and cheese in a food truck in the South Florida market,” says Gonzalez. The first roll-out will be Oct. 12 at Saint John Paul II Academy’s pep rally in Boca Raton, at 6 p.m. The truck will have the same menu as the restaurants, and that means folks can build-their-own bowls and grilled cheese sandwiches.

Don Chepo’s opens in Boca Raton

There’s a new taco spot in town at the Boardwalk in Boca Raton, where Don Chepo’s Taco Shop opens on Oct. 15. The first location for these folks was in Wellington a year ago, and it’s obviously done well.

Chef/Owner Dustin Parfitt (who has lived in Wellington since he was 12) and Owner Juan Gando have a menu featuring street-style tacos that include dishes for vegetarians/vegans and non-gluten options. Dinner will start next week, and a weekday lunch and weekend brunch menu are planned in the near future.

Boca gets Crazy Uncle Mike’s brewhouse

Add this to that list of breweries we just ran, because as soon as that was up, Crazy Uncle Mike’s opened—and it’s a brewery serving food, live music and sports watching, too. A little bit of everything.

There’s a happy hour menu Monday-Friday, 4 to 7 p.m.; Sunday-Thursday, 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. (that’s the late happy hour). Other dishes include appetizers, salads, flatbreads, tacos, sandwiches (called sandos), entrees and breakfast for dinner. Pretty much covers the waterfront. The Mike is owner Michael Goodwin, brewmaster is Corey Wilson (who also worked at Copperpoint in Boynton). Look for a café con leche stout. Why yes, we will! In the kitchen is Executive Chef Tara Abrams, formerly of 32 East. Drop by for lunch, dinner and weekend brunches.
