Tony Bova Opens Mario’s Osteria in Boca

The rebuilding of Tony Bova’s restaurant empire continues with the debut ofMario’s Osteria(1400 Glades Rd., 561/239-7000) in the former McCormick & Schmick’s space in Boca’s Glades Plaza shopping center.

Though billing itself as an osteria, the elegant, tres chic dining room is more upscale ristorante than humble café. The olive and earth-toned dining room is spacious and airy, with an open kitchen, big cozy booths and a “wine wall” of what appears to be recycled wooden wine boxes.

The new Mario’s harks back to the original Mario’s, which opened in the mid-1980s and closed in 2009, with a menu of moderately priced, accessible Italian dishes (and the much-loved garlic rolls) that sets it apart from its tonier, pricier sibling, Vivo Partenza.

Along with a roster of panini and signature and DIY pizzas, the menu offers a large selection of pastas (from spaghetti with meatballs to veal osso buco ravioli with truffled mushroom cream sauce), a variety of veal and chicken entrees and seafood dishes like shrimp scampi and San Francisco-style cioppino (fish stew).

The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner daily.
