Robert “Bob” Campbell, a pioneer in the shoe industry with his company BBC International and a prominent philanthropist, passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
Campbell was the chairman and CEO of BBC International, a footwear company based in Boca Raton. Specializing in children’s footwear, he enjoyed decades of success in the industry through innovative products and strategies that included, among many others, the LA Lights sneaker and an early merchandising deal for The Smurfs.
Campbell was perhaps best known in our community for his generous donations to charitable organizations in Boca Raton. In 2017, he received an honorary doctorate from Florida Atlantic University.
Campbell is survived by his wife Barbara Zangrelli, his three children Robert Jr., Dana, and Seth, and his five grandchildren. His funeral service will be held this Saturday, Feb. 22, at St. Ingatius Loyola Church in New York City.
