It’s Valentine’s Day! Here’s What Parents Love About Boca Raton

Happy Valentine’s Day, Boca parents! May your day be filled with hearts, candy and cards you won’t want to de-clutter the minute your kids come through the door. I personally enjoy Valentine’s Day (mostly for the chocolate) and love my spouse and kids (of course). But, I also love Boca Raton. There are so many reasons why families choose to settle in our little slice of paradise.

And for us longtime residents, here are a few reminders:

The Boca Raton Children’s Museum

The little ones love it. Since the museum focuses on hands-on, play-based learning, it’s also developmentally appropriate for early childhood. As a mom, I love that the Boca Raton Children’s Museum exhibits live in a small, historic house because I personally do not enjoy losing my little one in a huge space. I also love the low-tech environment—without distractions from TV, computers, tablets and phones (other than mommy taking a million pictures, of course), children can really focus on the imaginative play activities that are so healthy for them. Spanish River Park & Beach

The playground at Spanish River is one of my favorites. It’s perfect for the toddler set because of the built-in shade, soft “recycled tire” ground cover (in case your little one takes a tumble) and access to the beach itself post-playground session. It is a must if you have a child younger than 3. The equipment is great quality and there are plenty of picnic tables available for kids to pause during playtime to have a drink and snack. Plus, if you’re a Boca resident, all you have to do is purchase an annual beach permit for $58 and you’ll never have to pay a parking fee again (for one year) at any of Boca’s beach adjacent parks. It is a deal that I’ve found few parents know about, especially newer residents.  Spanish River Park, 3001 N. State Road A1A, Boca Raton; 561/393-7815.

Children’s Theater

Showtime Performing Arts Theatre in Royal Palm Place is the place to be whether your child wants to shine on stage…or simply enjoy other children their age singing and acting. My 4-and-a-half-year-old takes acting classes there and I’ve taken her to their musical performances as well. And for just $10 per ticket, you and your family can catch a production almost every Saturday throughout the year. Showtime Performing Arts Theatre, 503 SE Mizner Blvd. Boca Raton; 561/394-2626.

Mizner Park Amphitheater

I cannot tell you how many fun events my family and I have gone to at Mizner Park Amphitheater recently. Between the outdoor movies, concerts and festivals, it’s our go-to location for local entertainment. We’re especially looking forward to a screening of “ET” with a live orchestra on March 4 during Boca Raton’s Festival of the Arts. Get your tickets while you still can. Mizner Park Amphitheater, 590 Plaza Real, Boca Raton; 561/393-7984.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Boca Raton!
