Cool New Café Opens in PBG

Put a cool location in Donald Ross Village together with the culinary expertise of former Leftovers Café chef Tim Lipman and you’ve got Coolinary Café (4650 Donald Ross Rd., 561/249-6760), a stylish new eatery dishing upscale comfort food at (blessedly) midscale prices.

The long, narrow 60-seat space has the look of a modern American bistro, with off-white walls in a subtle stripe pattern, row of small tables opposite a zigzagging bar and the requisite exhibition kitchen.

Coolinary’s culinary ethos reprises the “farm to table” philosophy that’s gaining ground daily in South Florida, hitched to a commitment to make as much as possible in-house, from sausage to sangria. The diner-friendly menu encompasses everything from rabbit tacos and udon noodles with rock shrimp, lime, chilies and shiitakes to boneless fried chicken with jalapeno-cheddar waffle and banana cobbler with peanut crumble.

Prices are pretty friendly too, with salads and sandwiches mostly $10 and under and entrees ranging from $17 to $24. Now, that’s cool.
