It’s the most wonderful time of the year! At least it would be if this pandemic wasn’t dragging on and on. Luckily, the holidays aren’t completely canceled this year, thanks to technology and parents like me determined to make magic happen in 2020. Not to mention, there are still several fun, local activations and festive re-imagined events planned for families across South Florida this month.
Here are six unique ways to enjoy December locally (and online) with your Boca kids!
Go Digital with #ChristmasIsntCanceled
In a world where it feels like everything is canceled, one local company is here to remind moms and dads that CHRISTMAS ISN’T CANCELED! Their mission is for families to experience a very merry Christmas with their free digital “Christmas Eve In A Box” containing free printables, videos, music, contests and shareable social media so everyone can spread cheer safely all month long.
After all, doesn’t everyone need a little extra Christmas spirit this year?
Meet Santa in a Snow Globe, Virtually or Socially Distanced
If you’re feeling a little sad about missing your child’s traditional photo with Santa, fear not! There are plenty of ways you can still get that special 2020 memory.
- Boca Center- Saturday, December 5th: Bring your kids to enjoy a special time with Santa as he virtually livestreams from his North Pole workshop! You’ll not only get access to a digital photo, but will also receive a photo print onsite. RSVP here.
- City of West Palm Beach- Sunday, December 6th, Saturday December 19th and Sunday, December 20th: Kids will have the chance to share their annual wish lists with Santa, at a safe distance of course, with the jolly man in red tucked inside a snow globe. City staff will encourage social distancing while families wait in line, but visitors are welcome to take pictures from outside of Santa’s globe. Visits with Santa are free! More details here.
- Town Center at Boca Raton- Through December 24th: Simon® is pleased to announce a safe and socially distanced Santa visit for families as part of the Simon Santa Photo Experience. Reservations are required. Make your Santa reservation by RSVP’ing here.
- Rosemary Square- Weekends Through December 24th: Create lasting photo memories with Santa Claus under The Wishing Tree with no-contact visits with Santa available on weekends via reservation only.
Drive Through a Holiday Fantasy of Lights
This holiday season, get your family dressed up in their finest Christmas jammies and head to Coconut Creek with snacks and hot chocolate to-go for a safe and socially distant drive through holiday lights experience at Tradewinds Park.

Take a Holiday Lights Cruise
Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi’s Holiday Lights Cruises are returning at 50% capacity this year starting December 4th, so be ready to get in the holiday spirit…on the water! Each Holiday Lights Cruise features a 90-minute ride along the Intracoastal, where families can enjoy the dazzling holiday lights glowing and gleaming off of beautiful waterfront homes.
Water Taxi’s pickup is at the Riverside Hotel + Stranahan House where guests will depart on a double-decker boat. Cruises feature live holiday music so that guests can jingle all the way down the Intracoastal and specialty cocktails like the Peppermint Patty, Boozy Cider, and Knotty Coffee. Reservations are required. Cruises will run through December 30th (with the exception of Christmas Eve and Day). $35 for adults; $15 children ages 2-11.
Watch the Boca Ballet Theatre’s Nutcracker

Virtual seats must be reserved and viewers will have the option to donate to BBT to support the production. Shows will take place on Dec. 12th & 13th.
See a Really Big Christmas Tree
Named the Best Tree in the State of Florida by Travel + Leisure, Delray Beach’s 100 ft. Christmas Tree is a beloved annual spectacle that has taken place for the past 26 years even though this year, the inside will not be open to the public. The tree will be lit from Dec. 5th – Jan. 1st.
