As long as I can remember, I’ve had a fascination with weather. Maybe it’s because I dreamed of being a TV broadcaster or because I won first prize at my middle school science fair for my DIY cyclone in a box. Whatever the reason, I am absolutely thrilled about the amazing partnership recently announced between WPBF 25 News and the Cox Science Center and Aquarium in West Palm Beach.
The two entities are teaming up to create an incredible immersive weather experience that is sure to blow your mind (pun intended). Together, they will help families in our local community better understand and explore the science behind hurricanes, tornadoes, and the ever-changing weather in South Florida.
This new WPBF 25 meteorological exhibit, slated to open before the end of the year, will bring together science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) concepts for the community. It will feature severe weather tutorials from the WPBF 25 First Warning Weather team, educational interactive pieces, and photo opportunity areas. The exhibit’s goal is to give guests a greater understanding of STEAM concepts in our everyday lives and environment.
This recent collaboration brings even more immersive experiences and aligns with the upcoming Cox Science Center expansion set to launch in 2026. Boasting a state-of-the-art facility spanning 75,000 square feet, they plan to cater to over a million visitors annually. The Science Center has been a premier destination for schools and visitors alike since 1961. With cutting-edge science programming, including a planetarium, robotics, and more than 100 hands-on educational exhibits, the center is a hub for interactive learning.
Whatever the weather, Cox Science Center & Aquarium is open to the public Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
BREAKING: In more exciting news, Cox Science Center just announced that Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition will be docking at their location in West Palm Beach from Oct. 12th to April 14th. Stay tuned for more details on that development, one year in the making!
