What did moms do before social media? It keeps us connected. It keeps us entertained. But mostly, it’s a super gratifying (and instant) way to share photos and videos of our children, homes and food…especially during the train wreck year that was 2020! Now, of course social media isn’t always 100% reality. We’re all guilty of using filters and typically sharing only the best, most photographable moments in our lives. But where there’s a mom + a smart phone, there’s usually another status update about her #blessed South Florida family existence.
My favorite platform for years now has been Instagram. But, I think moms who take the time to post interesting and beautiful photos (and stories, Reels and live videos!) on Instagram are marvelous. In fact, when I moved back to Boca, the first hashtag I ever searched to start filling up my own Instagram feed was #bocamom.
Instagram has grown a ton since I started featuring my favorite local “grammers” in this column back in 2015. So, deciding on my annual picks for Boca moms to follow was really hard! Check out who made the cut for 2021…
The Buzzed Mom
I have both laughed and cried with Katie of @mommyneeds_morewine throughout 2020. She kept her followers entertained via her daily happy hour beverage choices, especially during lockdown. But, she also shared the parenting lows associated with raising two energetic boys and suffering a miscarriage at the end of the year. It’s not always sunshine and roses on her Instagram feed which is refreshing to see, especially in Boca.
Katie and her husband both happen to be first responders during one of the most challenging medical times in history, but parenting is her pride and joy. Whereas I feel the need to always keep moving, she’s savoring snuggles whenever and wherever she can. I often need a reminder to slow down.
Be sure to check out the photos on Katie’s grid that include various home renovations, especially when she had all of her kitchen cabinets painted white. Who doesn’t want to change their entire house during a pandemic?
Bonus feature of @mommyneeds_morewine account: Hair goals. I don’t know how she does it between her job and being a wife/mama, but even Rapunzel would be envious of Katie’s long locks.
The Media Mogul Mom
This native Boca mom’s profile may tout her account as a “diary of a stay at home mom”, but there’s so much more to @mamainmanolos than meets the eye on the ‘gram. Morgan is raising two little girls while working as part owner of @hungrybocagalsmedia, a social media and creative agency covering Boca Raton, Atlanta and New York City. Plus, any mama who’s a fan of designer shoes is a (Instagram) friend of mine!
Her active account covers mom tips and tricks, the best places to take kids in town, and all of her favorite shops and restaurants. Morgan and her girls are always styling, even at home. I can’t resist her twinning (or tripling) outfits! Not to mention, she always has a fun giveaway going on for her followers, which is such a nice way to recognize all the people behind the likes, saves and comments.
Bonus feature of the @mamainmanolos account: Recommendations for the best toys and books to buy for little ones, as Morgan is also a speech language pathologist (SLP).
The Wellness Mom
If you have a budding appreciation for eating and living healthy in 2021, but still adore a good cup o’ joe, then be sure to follow Anika of @lovealwaysanika! This Boca mom (formerly @milesandmimosas) is raising her two Boca kids while creating delicious vegan dishes, organic cocktails and plant-based meals that look simply drool-worthy. Not to worry—Anika also shares the recipes!
Throw in a little Disney magic, fitness inspiration and some fun local haunts and you’ve got overall family wellness and lifestyle goals.
Bonus feature of the @lovealwaysanika account: Soon to come…home decorating content. Anika and her family are in the midst of a West Boca home build that’s sure to include some amazing before and after photos! I can’t wait!
