Something Different Part 2: Whiskey Pairings and Plant-Based Festival

Summer is perfect for trying new things, whether away from home or on a staycation. Here are two ideas if you’re in the area:

Café Centro Uncorked takes on whiskey pairings

Café Centro Chef Jamie Steinbrecher

A dinner pairing food and whiskey? Absolutely. That’s the idea behind West Palm Beach’s Café Centro, in the hip Northwood neighborhood. Chef Jamie Steinbrecher will put together a four-course menu and Luxardo whiskey pairings on July 30, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Try dishes such as spicy tuna tartare with Lot 40 Canadian Rye, or roasted bone marrow with JH Cutter Blended Whiskey from San Francisco, among others. Cost is $79 per person; reservations are required.

First Plant-Based Festival includes food and fun

Hallandale Beach and Gulfstream Park are teaming up to sponsor the first Plant-Based Festival on July 28 at the Village at Gulfstream Park. The festival starts at 11 a.m. and goes till 3:30 p.m. Included in the free event are vendors with plant-based, vegan food, cruelty-free body products and clothing, environmentally friendly products, and more.

There will be music, kids’ activities and giveaways during the day. Bring your own reusable water bottle, cup or cutlery to cut down on waste. Alternatives are available at the festival, too. Reusable, stainless-steel straws will be given to the first 300 attendees.
