An elegant new Indian restaurant with an expansive menu has made its debut in an unlikely West Palm location.
Indus Indian & Herbal Cuisine (1649 Forum Place, 561/249-0123) has taken over a posh space in a small strip mall off Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard just east of I-95. Though the operators weren’t forthcoming with many details, Indus takes advantage of the previous restaurant’s design efforts, which include large, comfy booths, Art Deco-style chandeliers and luxe accouterments that give the space a decidedly upscale look.
The lengthy menu is a virtual tour throughout the Indian subcontinent, with 20 appetizers ranging from the familiar samosas and pakoras to more unusual offerings like fennel and star anise-marinated baby lobster with ginger, garlic, tomatoes and roasted coconut.
Salads come with a wealth of DIY garnishes, and more than a dozen curries include vegan offerings like eggplant and garbanzo beans and carnivorous fare from shrimp to lamb to goat. There’s also a roster of house-baked breads, desserts, rice dishes and assorted meat, poultry and seafood cooked in the tandoor oven.
Prices are very reasonable, with starters mostly under $10 and all entrees except lobster under $20. There are also lunch and weekend buffets, and the restaurant even delivers within a five-mile radius.
