PūrCycle, a new indoor cycling studio in Delray Beach, has all the makings of a great workout venue. It’s on the second floor of the old Milagro building at 101 S.E. Second Ave. It offers an impressive roster of spin instructors, 25 high-tech bikes and fitness monitoring equipment and middle-of-the-road pricing.

I asked founder and president Nicole Danna what PūrCycle offers our readers.

What makes PūrCycle different than other facilities that offer indoor cycling in the area?
Danna: When I set out to create this brand and this studio, I really had a few things in mind that would make it different. First of all the boutique setting is a little more intimate. … I’m an indoor cycling enthusiast, so I’m coming from the perspective of always being in the classroom. What I was looking for was a place that I could feel comfortable (and not feel like I was at a gym).

Our staff sets us apart. Michelle Mascari is my program director and brand manager, and she really put together a team of top-notch professionals in the area. She used to work for Equinox and helped open the South Beach and Aventura Equinox [facilities].

Our bikes [set us apart]. I have Blade spinners, which are a little different than anything you’ll see in the area. They are top-of-the-line StarTrac bikes, and I personally like them the best of all the bikes out on the market right now.

What do classes cost?
Eighteen dollars an hour, but when you buy larger packages, the price goes down as far as $12 a class. We also have a summer special where we have a month unlimited [classes] for $79, which is $100 off our regular rate for an unlimited month. That’s for the next three months. We also have three-month package for $199, which is good for 90 days from the purchase date. The first class is always free.

Tell us about the heart-rate feature.
We’re using Performance IQ, which is a heart-rate monitoring computer system. We’re the 32nd studio in the country to have Performance IQ. … We give [each rider] a heart-rate monitor strap to wear. When you start class, the heart-rate monitor connects to the program, and you can see [your bike number and corresponding heart rate on the screen]. That will show you your heart rate and how many calories you’re burning. It goes through a range of colors. When your heart rate is low, it starts out in green and slowly gets warmer [in color] to show how hard you’re working. We use this software to help people get the most from their workouts. They can see where their heart rate is and stay in the best ranges for fat-burning and cardio endurance, without working too little or too hard.

When do you offer classes?
We’re open seven days a week. Right now, our first class is at 6:30 in the morning and that’s offered two days a week. Our latest class is 7 p.m. We have a few classes on Saturday and one on Sunday, but are looking to build our schedule as we move forward.
